If you've stumbled across this article you're probably wondering to yourself: "How can I use Luna Park during my work day?" Luna Park is meant to be a seamless addition to your Slack apps to spark real connections with your coworkers, team and organization. There's multiple ways your team can use Luna Park throughout their day, but we're going to break down how we use it in HQ.
Here's a day at Luna Park:
9:15am: Intros and Icebreakers
It's Monday, and our Intros Slack message has gone out to everyone in the channel. New hires and current employees are encouraged to schedule a time to play one of our optional Icebreakers or schedule a game of their choosing to connect for the week.
Intros helps foster genuine connections within your team, no matter where they are. With a simple setup in Slack, it automatically groups team members and provides optional icebreakers to kick off conversations. This tool is ideal for diverse and distributed teams, building trust and empathy through meaningful interactions.
10:30am: Leadership Team Meeting
The leadership team gets together for their weekly meeting. They start the call with a game of Over Roasted - an interactive, immersive coffee shop experience, before diving into the week's goals and an overview of the company health before tackling some hard work.
12pm: New Hire Lunch
Time to have a working lunch with the new hires in First Day Partay. The team welcomes the new hires featuring some of our favorite cartoon heroes in this collaborative, getting to know you game.
1pm: Global Pairing Tournament
Our Global Pairing Tournament channel's members get matched for their next round of fun.
Every other month, team members are randomly paired into teams of two to collaborate on a fun 10-minute challenge. Each round features a Global Leaderboard that includes all companies across Luna Park, adding a competitive edge and fostering a sense of community.
2pm: Product Team Quarterly Event
The product team is hosting their quarterly hosted event. This quarter they have voted for Escape the Park: Clock's Ticking.
One player is the "Technician," facing the bomb with its complex array of Panels, while the rest of the team, the "Experts," have access to the bomb's manual via their smartphone. Communication is key---only by clearly conveying information back and forth can the team defuse the bomb in time. But there's a catch: the Defuser cannot see the manual, and the Experts cannot see the bomb. The clock is ticking, and every second counts as you race against time to prevent the explosion.
3-4pm: Department Meetings with Icebreakers
Other departments are having their weekly catch up meetings. They're all using an Icebreaker for their teams:
- Customer Support is playing the Whisper Challenge. Players engage in a hilarious test of lip-reading, taking turns to guess what their teammates are whispering. It's a game filled with playful challenges, perfect for any gathering.
- Marketing loves playing Who's Who in their department and loves to see how well they know their coworkers.
- Sales started their meeting playing Taboo - players work together to give clues and guess words without using the forbidden terms. This dynamic gameplay fosters teamwork, quick thinking, and creativity, making it a great way to strengthen team bonds.
- Engineering kicked off their call with Never Have I Ever. Participants are presented with statements about various activities, and those who have done the activity share their stories. Ideal for groups of 3-15 participants, this game focuses on sparking conversation and laughter without the need to keep score.
5:30pm: Company-wide Trivia
Every Monday, the entire Luna Park team gets together for a trivia game at 5:30. This week we're playing Food Trivia. This fast-paced trivia game has rounds of questions that cover everything from exotic ingredients to famous chefs. This game is full of friendly competition and collaboration revolving around food. We're huge into trivia and love having this experience at the beginning of each week. In fact, we look forward to it.
Conclusion
With Luna Park you can choose how robust you want to be in incorporating game play into your daily work, but we really feel that it's a great fit. Luna Park allows remote teams to come together in organic ways that foster a sense of camaraderie, engagement and belonging in the workplace. You don't have to take our word for it, but we encourage you to implement your own Day on Luna Park at your organization to see what it does for your team's morale and overall happiness.
